Features Of The New Twitter UI

Alright, I finally got access to the NEW twitter and it rocks! The UI is completely revamped & the feel itself is awesome.

I wanted to share couple of cool things that you can do on the new twitter with my friends.

First off, we all noobs know that twitter is the realtime news machine. You can find anything and everything that’s happening around the world. Today was the judgment day of the historic Ayodhya case. And twitter india was trending ‘ayodhya verdict’ on the top list since the official website was down due to traffic overload.

Now, back to the point, here is couple of cool new features of the new twitter!

>> Shortcuts

Using these shortcuts you can navigate within twitter easily.

>> No more ‘more’ click to scroll

On the old twitter you UI, you could only view certain tweets at a time but now you can simply scroll to infinity and the news keep flowing.

>> Easier @replies


With the new interface you easily and simply reply. A small Ajax popup window appears, just type the reply and hit the tweet button to post the reply.

>> Quick profile\detail view


With the new UI the twitter home page is divided into 2 places. One is the twitter stream and the other is the navigation window. The stream is the same thing, but we’re more interested in the navigational view. Here, in the navigational view we can see the profile of the twitter user, follow\unfollow, add to a list or post replies and more without navigating from the page.

Twitters New Re-designed Interface

Twitter has a new design, and as said on the blog, the new Twitter provides a faster experience, rich interface and easily accessible.

Besides the design, there are other points that have been improved in twitter:

  • New Design – Timeline with a cleaner and more details panel that gives more impact to each individual tweet.
  • Media – You can embed photos and videos directly to Twitter.
  • Related Content – Learn about the author or the theme answers, other user’s tweets, map, etc.
  • Mini profiles – click upon it name to see a mini profile without leaving the page.

Tweet Less Blog More

I see lot of bloggers getting addicted to Twitter. Most of the famous bloggers are on twitter and all they do nowadays is to just keep sharing links on Twitter and searching for new inspirational content!

I’m sure twitter is going overcapacity with all the information, but really bloggers? Common, we’re all awesome at blogging about new stuff and I think we need to stick to the basics instead of just tweeting all the time :D

Women Tweet more than Men

Study has shown that females tweet more than men on Twitter!

After investigating more than 9 million profiles on Twitter, Hubspot concluded that l omen Twitter a 12% longer than men. One issue that is not surprising if we consider that, in general, are more sociable and given to communicate continuously.

What’s more, this study also revealed that if we look at the ‘average percentage’ of women and men, the number of Women users are more than male on Twitter (53% women, 47% men).

Twitter plans to charge Publishers and Developers

Twitter, a few days ago decided to block any advertiser aliens from it. And with the release of their new terms of use, twitter plans to charge some sort of tax on start-ups and some publishers who make money with the Twitter API.

Twitter is logical that you want to monetize your tool (using the twitter API), so it has been necessary for this radical change in the policies (TOS), until now the Twitter API was freely allowed to make API calls with its content. We all know ‘Twitter is a success’, but now its time for the company to start fund raising towards profit. In twitters words:

It seems that the vague wording is deliberate, if you are not certain on how to proceed with this issue. Some things to keep in mind:

  • Twitter only focus on sites and services they sell advertising outside Twitter. If your service does not generate profits, or do differently to advertising (for example, subscriptions, analytical packages, etc..) you do not have to worry.
  • If you have to pay, there are two ways – Profit sharing or to use twitter’s “Promoted Tweets“
  • Minimum payment details are not yet concluded.

So far nothing concrete is set; it is possible that even Twitter itself does not know how to proceed with this issue. But what is certain is the change in its policies which includes some ideas of charging developers and publishers.

The official Twitter application for Android is available

After the takeover of Tweetie by Twitter , and the announcement of the official Twitter app for iPhone, Twitter has announced the launch of its official application for Android.

The formal application does not handle multiple twitter accounts as of now on the Android and is only support on Android 2.1+ versions.

The application is available on the Android Market and for easy reference here is the QR Code.

Microsoft's OfficeTalk is the new Business Twitter

Microsoft will shortly begin a new microblogging service named Office Talk, which aims to employees to briefly share information, such as in Twitter.

As said in the Microsoft Office Labs blog, this concept will be to test the basic capabilities of microblogging in business environments, enabling employees to express their thoughts, activities and information that may be valuable for anyone who may be interested.

For the Redmond Company, OfficeTalk is not a product, but is a research project focused on where people can learn to use social networking tools at work and also know how companies and organizations can make use of this service.

Twitter is also hoping to be Twitter for businesses. And, for those who want something that runs on their own servers, there’s already Yammer, which has been around since 2008.

The challenge, says Office Labs general manager Chris Pratley, isn’t building a microblogging service. The features there are pretty basic and straightforward. The real issue, he said, is figuring out the necessary things to make it a service people want to use.

Today is March 21, 2010. Guess what’s todays special? Today is twitter’s fourth birthday! In 2006, Twitter was started just a text message exchange service and now in 2010, twitter is considered as on of the pioneered micro-blogging websites.

Also, today, Twitter’s international rankings in Alexa, has lined up an enviable No. 12th position.

More Stop Spam Measures by Twitter

Twitter wants to solve the SPAM problem and phishing attacks that have been rocking the twitter-verse in the recent months.

Accordingly, it has an announcement on its official blog – Twitter, has introduced a new feature to encounter malicious junk messages or links. To end these attacks, the new service that will try to “detect, intercept and prevent the spread of spam or phishing links. This is a new protection service from Twitter which works by scanning all links on the users’ account.

There’s a short explanation on the twitter blog about this new tool.. However, they haven’t mentioned details of the new spam inceptor service..
