How are friends connected on Facebook? Facebook intern, paul buttler has created an image that shows you the facebook friend connections worldwide based on cities, the number of friend connections in them.

When you have a social graph data of 500 million people, there are many ways you can look at them.

The creator paul says:

Defined the importance of each pair of cities as a function of the Euclidean distance between them and the number of friends among them. Then I drew lines between pairs of importance, so that pairs of cities with more friends among them were drawn over others. The color scale goes from black to blue to white, each line with the color corresponding to their weight. Also transformed lines to fit in the picture, rather than lengthen them all over the map.

The image, besides being spectacular, it also gives us an idea of how friendships are spreading throughout the world, including oceans.

As Google positions the tweets from Twitter, you must also make sure, the Facebook pages position. We must also bear in mind that Facebook is world’s biggest social media for promotion of brands.

What Google has in mind when positioning Facebook Fan Pages? What factors are most important?.

For now, there is not much knowledge about it, but here are couple of things:

  • Number of fans – THe more followers, Page rank is more relevant. You need to check if all fans are “worth” the same as or more important the larger ones.
  • The type of content – Freshness, relevance of content, images, videos, etc..
  • Big brands – The reputation of a brand
  • URLs – the same as traditional SEO URL
  • Number of “shares” – Popularity of content – How many people have shared posts from the fan page?
  • Age of the Fan page -  Comparison between Old and Newly created facebook page … etc.

ReclaimPricavacy scanner which is offered as an open source script comes in the form of a bookmarklet (a small program in Javascript, you drag your favorites to click it once connected to Facebok).

It wont ask for your password or your name to verify your security options and will thoroughly check your settings for different aspects of protecting your Facebook privacy.

According to the site, ReclaimPrivacy “will never see your data” and “will never share your personal information“.

To use, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to the site ReclaimPrivacy and drag the visible link to a button to the Bookmarks Bar of your browser
  2. Go to Facebook and log in, then click the bookmark you just created
  3. You will see a series of tests done that will turn your privacy settings (this may take a little time). If the software detects a problem, it will notify you.

OpenBook: The Facebook Status Search Engine

OpenBook is created by engineers Will Moffat, Peter Burns and James Home. It is a Facebook status search engine. If you head over to the OpenBook, you will get to search everybody’s status(according to their privacy) with a particular keyword.

Accumulating the ‘Fact and figures’ of top websites is the latest trend on the web. Recently Ping.com conducted a survey and created a detailed graphic image about Google.com’s fact and figures. Now it’s the biggest social network – Facebook’s turn with about the 40 million members .

That’s not everything, according to the new graphics created by Website-Monitoring.com. Facebook globally has more than 400 million users of which 50% users are active.

Moreover, the image also provides other historical data from the past. The social network sees and increase of 3,000 photographs every month, with over 60 million daily update status updates each week and shared links with over 5,000 websites, videos and blogs.

Facebook to Rollout Geographical Targeting in April

Facebook is preparing to send out an update for the entire user base to give permission to share their geographical locations. According to several sources, the popular social network Facebook has been working on this new additional feature from about a year ago but is being very cautious about implementing it. Facebook does not want the new feature to cause any technical problems to the targeted Ads function.

We also hear that this feature will be available from April on Facebook as it’s rumored in the f8 conference (which happens every year for developers). The meet also hosts an API for third parties, engaging applications to share this information.
So far the company has remained silent and one of its spokesmen Meredith Chin said, the company is still not ready to give information regarding this new service because they are still testing and adapting things.

It is clear that the service still wants to attract more users than losing the existing ones. A few weeks ago, Facebook reached 400 million users mark and also became the second most visited site in the U.S., after Google.

Meanwhile, rival Twitter in December bought Mixer Labs, a company that will support you to Geotag the tweets. The CEO of Twitter, Evan Williams, said at the time that the new acquisition of the company will allow users show their Twitter followers from where they are writing their tweets.
